Preacher: Jack Shanks
Passage: Zephaniah 2:11-15

God Famishing “gods”

…He will famish all the gods of the earth.

[ZEPHANIAH 2:11-15]

Vile religion is rampant in the earth. The followers of jiving, jumping, idiotic “preachers” are swept up in the euphoria of “Thank you, Jesus.” As the elect people of the sovereign Lord view all this, the stomach has a tendency to feel uneasy and want to throw off its contents.

How long, Oh Lord?  Your holy Name is desecrated and profaned by the worshippers of the “gods” of the earth.  We are assured that You will be terrible unto them and that You will famish them.  God’s children long to see the day when "she becomes a desolation, a place for beasts to lie down in! everyone that passeth by her shall hiss, and wag his hand” (v. 15).  It is not wrong to desire this for the glory of God's great Name.

If truly His Name is above every name, then we must be jealous for His honor. “Hallelujah” will be shouted when He judges the great whore (REVELATION 19:1-2).  We agree with His judgements, and thank His holy Name that we have a revelation of Him as He is.
