Passage: Isaiah 53:10-11 & Hebrews 1:3

God’s Sin Offering

Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He hath put Him to grief: when Thou shalt make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hand.

(ISAIAH 53:10)

GOD must be satisfied. The LORD JESUS CHRIST, GOD’s blessed SON, the incarnate third Person of the eternal Godhead is GOD’s singular satisfaction for the sin of His Loved ones. We cannot satisfy infinite justice for ourselves because the only source we have to make the effort is sinful in itself, which is ourselves. Only that which is unclean can come from an unclean thing. Our HEAVENLY FATHER because of His infinite love for His children and His Holy character which is glorifying in Himself and revealing in His SON has provided that which only He can provide.

Amazingly, the verse before us reveals GOD’s eternal Covenant of Grace from election to glorification (ISAIAH 53:10). No less than a dozen times is our Lord referred to in this one verse! The HOLY GHOST is making it undeniably clear that GOD has provided that sin offering and that sin offering is none other than the LAMB OF GOD. He is GOD’s satisfaction — “He shall see of the travail of His soul, and shall be satisfied: by His knowledge shall My righteous servant justify many; for He shall bear their iniquities” (ISAIAH 53:11). This one verse does not stand alone in identifying GOD’s sin offering. This grand and glorious truth is the theme of all the WORD OF GOD. Nevertheless, the mass of humankind in self‐delusion imagine that they themselves can justify themselves before GOD by their own doings. Those that persuade themselves and others of self‐justification reveal a heart of unbelief and irreverence for GOD and HIS CHRIST and HIS WORK OF REDEMPTION.

The LORD JESUS CHRIST in HIS redemptive work is the sinner’s only hope and assurance. This is the only work that gives honor and glory to the blessed Trinity in the salvation of sinners. “Who being the brightness of His glory, and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the ward of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high” (HEBREWS 1:3).
