Passage: Psalm 89:31-33 & Haggai 1:6

If They Break My Statues,
And Keep Not My Commandments

If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments; Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes. Nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail.

(PSALM 89:31-33)

[Beloved,] If you deny to do that good which you ought with what your God has given you; then consider that, though He love your soul, yet He can chastise; First, your inward man with such troubles that your life shall be restless and comfortless. Secondly, that He can also so blow upon your outward man, that all you get shall be put in a bag with holes [PSALM 89:31-33; HAGGAI 1:6]. And if He should permit but one thief among your substance, or one spark of fire among your barns, how quickly might that be spent ill, and against your will, which you should have spent to God’s glory, and with your will. And I tell you further, if you lack a heart to do good when you have enough, you may lack in those things from others when yours is taken from you. (See Jude 1:6-7.)
