Make Fat Thy Bones

And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God

(LUKE 4:4)

Never did man yet catch harm by the enjoyment and fulness of the grace of God. There is no fear of excess, or of surfeiting upon [the grace of God]. Grace makes no man proud, no man wanton, no man haughty, no man careless or negligent as to his duty that is incumbent upon him, either from God or man. No. Grace keeps a man low in his own eyes, humble, self-denying, penitent, watchful, savory in good things, charitable; and makes him kindly affectionate to the brethren, pitiful and courteous to all men [God’s word declares beloved, “…the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not” (ISAIAH 58:11)].
