Passage: 2 John 1:9

One Point—One Issue

Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son

(2 JOHN 1:9)

I remember hearing of a man asking a dear brother during a conference, “So tell me, in these parts—are you guys four point Calvinists or five point Calvinists?”—to which my friend and faithful minister of the Gospel replied “We’re One pointers in these parts; for we preach One point, CHRIST!”

One point—one issue, CHRIST!

I’m so blessed to receive that! (JOHN 15:26) When I read the scriptures, I see the same faithful testimony of other faithful ministers of God which is preserved for us by the Holy Spirit.
Our brother the apostle John wrote “He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life” (1 JOHN 5:12).

One point—one issue, CHRIST!

Luke wrote of Philip, “Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them….” And later it is written of this faithful minister of God that he “…opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus” [ACTS 8:5,35].

One point—one issue, CHRIST!

Indeed, the one sermon and text wherever and whenever Philip preached was CHRIST!

Our Lord and God Jesus Christ declared “He that believeth on Him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God” (JOHN 3:18, JOHN 20:28).

One point—one issue, BELIEVING ON HIM!

“He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him” (JOHN 3:36).

For anyone, no matter the “’ism” they follow, if they deny the doctrine (the gospel) of Christ in any way—they show themselves to not abide in His doctrine, showing themselves to not believe on the Son of God and indeed to not have God (2 JOHN 1:9).

Total Depravity, Unconditional Election, Limited Atonement, Irresistible Grace, and Perseverance of the Saints are truths that adorn the doctrine of our blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. My friend, they are not Calvin’s doctrine but rather the Lord’s doctrine. For anyone to deny any of these precious truths of His divine revelation, is to deny the faith once given to the saints and not believe on the Son of God.

Sectarian men want to know if you’re Reformed, or if you’re a Calvinist, or if you’re a five pointer or a four pointer. When a brother in Christ meets a professing Christian, there is only one thing they want to know. Do they believe CHRIST? Do they love my blessed Redeemer? Do they believe on the Son of God? Beloved believing sinner, I trust you already know—our Gospel is not a what, but rather ever so blessedly a Whom, the Lord Jesus Christ! (2 TIMOTHY 1:12)
