Passage: Philippians 1:21

The Believer’s Object

For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

(PHILIPPIANS 1:21)

The believer's object is Christ. “For to me to live is CHRIST.” (PHILIPPIANS 1:21) Paul had but one object, “Whether we live, we live unto the LORD, and whether we die we die unto the LORD” (ROMANS 14:8). It is a man’s object (that to which his affections, thoughts, and feelings are directed), not his position, that gives character, peace, confidence, and standing. Many people, (preachers included) clamor for recognition, praise, and position: and that is natural for one who does not have anything better. But the believer is—“Content with beholding His face, My all to His pleasure resign; No changes of season or place Would make any change in my mind. While blest with a sense of His love, A palace a toy would appear, And prisons would palaces prove If Christ would dwell with me there.” (HOW TEDIOUS AND TASTELESS by JOHN NEWTON)
