Watch and Pray

“And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? 41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation:the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” â€” MATTHEW 26:40-41

I have often considered our Lord’s question to Peter in the light of my own sinful flesh. “What, could ye not watch with me one hour?” Beloved, are we watching or are we sleeping? How difficult it is for us to pray, study God's Word, and worship our Lord with awakened interest. It would be to our spiritual well being to watch and pray that we do not enter into temptation. Indeed the believer’s quickened spirit is willing but our flesh is so, so weak. May God be pleased to always cause us to watch and pray looking unto Jesus Christ the author and finisher of our faith for every single thing. (HEBREWS 12:2)
