Witness of Christ

While not every child of God is called to be a public preacher of the Word, every child of God is called upon to be a witness of Christ. Every child of God is called upon to do his part in the Great Commission, “Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” (MARK 16:15)

Does somebody say, “How?” There are two ways to be a witness of Christ. The first way is to preach without the Word. Peter said in 1 PETER 3:1, “Wives, be in subjection to your husbands: that if any obey not the Word, they may also without the Word be won by the conversation of their wives.” That obviously does not mean that you can be saved by observing the good conduct of someone else. However, it does mean that somebody can be so impressed with our conduct it can lead them to ask us “a reason for the hope that is in you.” (1 PETER 3:15) The way we live before others is a powerful sermon! It demonstrates the reality of our faith! But no one is saved by merely seeing a good example. They must hear the gospel. So we preach with the Word. As the Lord opens the door, we testify to them how God saved us, we give those [sermon recordings] or literature, we invite them to worship services, and we financially support the spread of the gospel. Every believer is called upon to be a fisher of men in that sense!
