Passage: Hebrews 10:14 & Hebrews 10:29

Perfected For Ever Through His One Offering

…by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

(HEBREWS 10:14)

When a so called Christian, be he Jew or Gentile, says in word or deed, that the blood of Christ is not enough, that it was not sufficient to take away the sins of His people, they are treading under foot the Son of God and counting His precious blood an unholy thing. Paul says of them “Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?” Paul has been hammering this point home, again and again in his epistle to the Hebrews, that the Lord Jesus Christ with His once and for all sacrifice has made those that the Father sanctified, perfect for ever!

For anyone to add to what the Lord accomplished, indeed for anyone to add to what the Lord finished, is to trodden under foot the Son of God and count the blood of the covenant an unholy thing. That is to say, when someone tries to bring another sacrifice, or if someone believes Christ did his part and now they need to do their part to make salvation work—they are in fact saying that the Lord’s blood was ineffectual, that it lacked something—they blasphemously teach that Christ did not accomplish salvation for His people, and pester them with the lie that they must do this or that to be saved! This is what the apostle is dealing with; that among our Hebrew brothers and sisters in Christ, there were unbelievers who could not rejoice or, for that matter rest, in the gospel contained in this precious verse, that “by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified”; one offering beloved, once and for all!

These false teachers who were among the Hebrew churches were saying Christ did all He could, but now you must sacrifice another animal—to make what He did effectual! It is the same heresy we hear today among Gentiles—they profess to believe the gospel, but really don’t believe it at all! They say, Christ did all He could to save you, but now you must do this or that to make what He did effectual! Away with that lie! So what is it that you must do to be saved? “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.”

My friend when the Lord Jesus Christ cried out on the cross “It is finished,” He put away the sins of His people to be remembered no more. Believe on Him, believe His words—he cried out “It is finished” once and for all—by the sacrifice of Himself he put away the sins of His people. Once and for all, Our Heavenly Father made Him sin for us, who knew no sin, that we might be “MADE THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD IN HIM.”
