Passage: Proverbs 20:13

The Words of a Dishonest Man

Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.

(PROVERBS 20:13)

“If what you are saying is true, then many of my family and friends are not saved. Worse yet, I could not have been saved when I thought I was. If the truth be known, the thing that really disturbs me about your gospel is, I may not be saved now. I am unwilling to consider any of those possibilities. I can not refute your position from scripture. The only way to prove that you are wrong and I am right, which I must do in order to shore up my shaky assurance, is to attack your motive and character. Therefore, you are just being too narrow, arrogant, and judgmental. Now I feel better. I can go back to sleep.”
